* Searching and indexing.
Keywords recognized from scanned ********s are indexed in a database that allows for quick access to them.
* Duplex scanning.
Using your duplex scanner, get your scanning done in ½ the time. Automatically scan both sides of a double-sided page, producing two images at once. Regular scanners must scan double-sided pages by scanning one collated stack of paper, then flipping it over and scanning the other side.
* Customizable of field labels.
Change the names of the field labels in the program to apply to your situation. The following field names can be customized: account name, account number, invoice number, and notes.
Indexing in detail:
To find a ******** using the standard version of Paper Valet™, you need to know the following information about the ********: account name, account number, and date. Using this information, you can browse to the ******** in the View Tab by selecting the account name, then selecting the account number, and finally, choosing the date. This process can take a while if for example; you do not know the ******** date. You may end up browsing many ********s under the account name before finding the one you were looking for. Indexing solves this problem by accelerating the process of finding and retrieving ********s.
Paper Valet™ Pro offers two types of indexing: field-based and full-text.
Field-based indexing provides a controlled way of searching for ********s. You can search for ********s based on any combination of the fields: account name, account number, invoice number, notes, and date.
Full-text indexing expands upon field-based indexing by allowing you to also search for all recognized words in a ********. OCR (Optical Character Recognition — software that translates images of letters entered into the computer with a scanner into characters that can be manipulated as text but not as images), is applied to the ******** to produce a list of high confidence words to use in the index. Recognized words are rarely 100% accurate, so Paper Valet™ Pro provides you with the ability to automatically spell check the word list as well as hand-editing the word list. Full-text indexing is available if you have one of the following OCR engines installed: Microsoft® Office 2003, OmniPage® Pro 14, or OmniPage® Pro 15. Paper Valet™ Pro will use MODI — Microsoft Office ******** Imaging Library to perform OCR if you select Microsoft® Office 2003 as your OCR engine.
Important note: Microsoft® Office XP does not contain MODI. If you do not have Microsoft® Office 2003, or one of the other OCR engines, you can manually enter keywords. In the future, Paper Valet™ Pro will support additional OCR engines.
After a ******** is scanned, a record is added to the Paper Valet™ Pro database which contains the ******** information. Search keys are added for each word in the full-text or field-based word list that cross reference the ******** information.
Searching in detail:
Using the Search Tab you can find and retrieve ********s that match the search criteria that you enter. Your text is broken into words and the words are looked up in the database. You can also specify wildcards (a special character or character sequence which matches any character in a string comparison, like ellipsis (“…”) in ordinary written text), in a search.
Search results will be sorted with the best matching results first. The results list includes a graphical indicator of the ********’s relevancy. The indicators are color coded to indicate the quality of the match. Green indicates the best matches, yellow indicates midrange matches, and red indicates poorest matches. The number of bars is used to symbolize the ******** ranking in the color range.
You can also sort the result list by date, account name, or account number.

* Creates and manages a ******** repository on your file system.
********s are stored in a hierarchical structure under a folder called My Papers, which is filed under your My ********s folder. The ******** of the My Papers folder is fully configurable and you can even put your My Papers folder on a network drive for multi-user access.
* ********s are filed by account and date.
New ********s are assigned an account and date. ********s are stored under a folder with the account name, and optional account number. The ******** is filed under the account name using the date. The file name is configurable and can include the account name, account number, an invoice number, and the date.
* Automates scanning by bypassing the TWAIN or WIA user interface.
Paper Valet™ Pro works with both TWAIN and WIA compliant scanners. Most applications provide their scanning functionality through your scanner driver’s user interface. This user interface is generic and designed to be used with a wide variety of applications, yet it has many drawbacks: a dialog will pop up for each scan, the dialog can require an excess number of mouse clicks, and some do not remember your previous settings between scans. Paper Valet™ Pro bypasses the driver’s user interface to speed up your scanning tasks.
* Batch scan multiple ********s.
Setup categorization information for multiple ********s and then automatically scan them to the correct ********. Load your scanner’s ******** feeder and kick-off a batch scan. When the process completes, Paper Valet™ Pro will notify you with a marked tone.
* A convenient explorer style view for browsing your ********s.
Switch to the View tab to browse through your ********s. The View tab is tied to the Scan tab so you can quickly browse to the last scanned ********. The View tab lets you perform tasks like renaming ********s, moving ********s, and deleting ********s without leaving the application.
* A median filter for removing noise in black and white scans.
Enable this advanced noise filter to remove speckles while still preserving image details. The median filter works best with images scanned at 300 DPI or greater. In addition to cleaning up the noise, the median filter will also reduce the file size.
* ********s are stored as multi-page TIFF or PDF files.
********s are stored using the industry standard TIFF file format or PDF — the standard file format of the Internet. Both formats allow for one or more pages and the pages are encoded using either CCITT Group 4, LZW, or JPEG compression.
* Integrated image viewer.
View your ********s using the Paper Valet™ Pro integrated image viewer. As ********s are scanned, they are displayed in the image viewer’s ******** You can click on a ******** in the View tab to display it in the image viewer. The image viewer has built-in anti-aliasing to produce a clear and sharp image.
* Collate multi-page ********s.
Double sided pages can easily be collated. After scanning one side, simply flip the pages over and reload them into your ******** feeder. Paper Valet™ Pro will prompt you to collate the pages after you’ve scanned all of them and the pages will be collated in the correct order.
* Works with flatbed and ******** feeder scanners.
Paper Valet™ Pro detects if a ******** feeder is present and will use it if paper is loaded. If a feeder exists, but there is no paper in it, you’ll be prompted to add paper or scan using the platen. For scanners with no ******** feeders, Paper Valet™ Pro adds an inter-page count down mechanism. When the timer counts down, the scanner will automatically start scanning the next page. This lets you replace pages on the platen without having to worry about clicking and typing. The timeout is configurable and there’s also a pause button available.
* Add a note to your ********s.
Enter any information that you would like to keep with the ********. It will be embedded in the TIFF as tag data or in the PDF file as a subject.
* No proprietary datastores.
Paper Valet™ Pro stores files on your file system, not in a proprietary database. Gain peace of mind knowing that you don’t have to worry about your important ********s being lost in a corrputed proprietary datastore.
* Compatible with the one-touch scan button.

* Post-processing of ********s using any 3rd party application.
Paper Valet™ Pro lets you run any application after a ******** has scanned. You can specify the command-line arguments to the application including macros that expand to things like the ********’s ********, the ******** name, and the account information.
